A Christmas Gift for One Lucky Reader

I’m done with all my Christmas shopping but I realized I forgot someone very special: you! In honor of New Year’s approaching, I would like to send one reader a small Christmas gift that will help with his or her New Year’s resolution.

I keep hearing great things about Danielle LaPorte’s book, The Desire Map: A Guide to Creating Goals with Soul. I haven’t read it yet, but the basic premise it that the way we set goals is all wrong; rather than making a list of what we want to receive and achieve, we should think about how we want to feel. This book helps you come up with an action plan for your best intentions.

Here’s how to win the kindle version of this book: In the comment section, let me know a goal you’ve always wanted to achieve, what you’ve done to go after it, and what has kept you from achieving it. Post this by Dec. 30 5pm EST. I’ll be choosing one comment at random. Sorry, no family members allowed (you already got your gifts ๐Ÿ˜› )

Happy Holidays!

P.S. Let me know if you like the book so I can get my own copy.

  1. This is a very generous offer. My theme (and therefore goal) of the year is Fear Not. I will turn 50 this year, and I want to step out more, not let fear or choosing safely or even “what’s best” be my guide. My kids fly the nest and it’s time for me to stretch my wings too. Not sure if that ties in well with your post, but that’s the goal for myself this year.

A very merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you– I’m looking forward to reading another year’s worth of posts from you. I have a feeling very good things are going to start breaking loose for you!

  2. A goal that I’ve always dreamed of was owning my own business. I played around with the idea of having a shop, designing windows, personal shopper, interior decoratorโ€ฆ. and the lists grows.
However at age 8 I knew my destiny was to become a nurse. Now after 39 years of nursing, my dream is unfolding. I’ve started my own businessโ€ฆ..and it’s creative, artistic, helpful, educational and rewarding. It inspires me like nothing I could have ever dreamed of. The sky’s the limit!
    Happy New Year to all!

    1. Your business is all of those adjectives you described and more! I wish you the best of luck, and I know 2014 is going to bring you great success. Keep living your passion ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Let’s see…my first instinct was to say my dream is to publish my book, but thinking of The Desire Map strategy, my real goal is to feel productive, creative and accomplished. A big fat hug right back at you!

  3. This is not a dream I have ALWAYS wanted, but is one now in my life. I want to find a wonderful, kind, funny, active, family man who cares for our planet and the people who live on it. I want to love this man and have him love me in return.

What have I done toward this: I am active on Match.com. I make sure I sent out at least 2-3 emails a week. I talk to men wherever I am ex; on an airplane, grocery store etc. Not knowing where I will meet this amazing person, I take interest in how I look when I go out to even meaningless spots. I sleep only on 1/2 of my bed, making space for that new someone. I am working out 3x p/week and losing some weight. I have made my list of What I must have, What I would like to have, What I will not tolerate…getting clear on what he is like. I say daily prayers of thanksgiving for him being in my life. I picture and FEEL what it will be like to have a new love after all these years.

What has kept me from achieving it: I actually don’t know. I have had some health issues, but after having back surgery, I was back on the horse again. Now I seem to have more health issues which keeps me from being as active as I dream of being. This is mentally discouraging. I wonder if I continue to create pain to slow me down out of fear of a new relationship after 40 years? I don’t THINK so, but the mind and subconscious is a tricky thing. I know I would be a great catch…I know how to love and be loved. I just am not sure how to put that out there.

    1. It looks like you already have your desires mapped out! You know I’m a huge fan of Match (that’s where I met Mike), and I love how proactive you’re being. You are such an incredible person, and I know some lucky guy is out there not even aware of what a gift he’s about to receive in you. You’ve been a role model for so many people, and I know you are going to be a role model for finding love again. Best of luck in 2014!

  4. I just saw Marie Forleo’s interview with Danielle last week and was struck by the premise of digging just a little deeper into the feelings we want to achieve behind the goals. What a fresh perspective! My goal has always been to compile a bunch of my humorous essays into a book. I’ve got the title selected, along with a list of topics, and have posted a few on my blog. What’s kept me from achieving this goal? Me. I get caught up in the details: how will I find the money to publish a book? How do I even go about it? What if the book gathers dust on shelves? On and on, i go, throwing roadblocks in the way. My husband tells me to just write it and the rest will come. There you have it, although I have to admit, it feels good to get this off my chest. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for your generous offer to all of us, and Merry Christmas!

    1. I heard about Danielle through Marie Forleo’s interview too! I love her youtube series.
I love your goal and I hope it comes true. My husband gives me the same advice too ๐Ÿ˜› You should contact Barry at barrywax.wordpress.com. He used a very affordable self-publishing site and is very happy with the results. Good luck!
